The Quaid-i-Azam Chair Legacy

School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA)

New York, NY · Endowed Pakistan Studies Chair

Dr. Hassan Abbas held the distinguished Quaid-i-Azam Chair Professor appointment at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). Established to foster advanced scholarship, democratic governance studies, and strategic security discourse on Pakistan and South Asia within the Ivy League, the endowed chair carries a legacy of singular institutional prestige.

Predecessors & Intellectual Heritage

Prior to Dr. Abbas's tenure, the Quaid-i-Azam Chair at Columbia was held by leading Pakistani political scientists and constitutional scholars, notably Prof. Hasan Askari Rizvi and Dr. Saeed Shafqat, cementing its stature as the premier North American academic platform for South Asian policy scholarship.

During his tenure at Columbia SIPA, Dr. Abbas convened international symposia, directed research on South Asian regional security and religious diplomacy, and instituted the annual Quaid-i-Azam Memorial Lecture series.
